Through a grant from the National Recycling Coalition, Inc. (NRC), SU-EFC is incubating this long-standing national NGO by providing staff assistance. The NRC represents and advocates for every sector of the recycling industry across North America. The NRC utilizes tools and resources such as annual meetings, webinars, eNews, and regional and national events to promote and enhance recycling efforts. NRC also provides training and support to its 23 affiliated state recycling organizations to advocate for recycling.

In addition to these services, NRC sponsors a Campus Council for members of the college and university community to learn from each other, manages the National Standards Certification Program and job training program, hosts an annual recycling awards effort, and offers annual scholarship awards for college students interested in recycling.

National SMM Summit

In partnership with NRC and the University of Maryland EFC, SU-EFC hosted a National SMM Summit at the University of Maryland in May 2015. The purpose of the summit was to accelerate the adoption of sustainable materials management (SMM) practices across the United States by facilitating dialogue between model communities and programs, and through the development of a National SMM Action Plan. The summit was held with financial support from the USDA and US EPA.
