A New Chapter

The Syracuse University Environmental Finance Center (SU-EFC) has been a national leader in environmental infrastructure funding for over 30 years, serving communities in EPA Region 2—including New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, USVI, and eight Native Nations. Founded in 1993, SU-EFC has helped communities innovate solutions, secure water infrastructure funding, develop shovel-ready projects, and navigate state and federal financing.

In 2024, SU-EFC’s home (formerly known as the ‘Center for Sustainable Community Solutions’) launched a new identity as the Institute for Sustainability Engagement (ISE). As a pillar center within ISE, SU-EFC continues to provide expert guidance across EPA Region 2 and beyond, supporting communities in addressing the “how-to-pay” challenges of environmental protection and infrastructure investment.
