Town of Hounsfield Comprehensive Planning Committee—Sackets Harbor, NY
The Town of Hounsfield is a historic place with ties to the War of 1812 and known for its natural beauty. Located in Jefferson County, the region is recognized for the Adirondacks Park, the 1000 Islands/St. Lawrence River, Lake Champlain, and the Tug Hill Plateau. The Adirondack Park is the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States and the 1000 Islands is an incredibly popular vacation destination.
The EFC presented a training program to the Town of Hounsfield on the comprehensive planning process, which outlined the process of setting up a comprehensive planning committee, engaging the public, and preparing a final document with the inclusion of necessary components. As a result of this training, the EFC was asked to submit a proposal to facilitate future comprehensive planning committee meetings, conduct public engagement, and begin the compilation of the plan. Staff members from the EFC conducted monthly meetings to gather information for the town to use in their comprehensive plan. The EFC administered a community survey, hosted a community forum, and finalized the comprehensive plan document for the Town of Hounsfield Planning Board. The document underwent public review and was adopted by the town to help guide them through their future decision-making.
