Aug 21, 2011 – Teens Build Worm Bins with EFC Staff

Who says girls are afraid to get their hands dirty? Seven brave teenagers in Girls Inc.’s summer program volunteered to learn about and build worm bins this August with Syracuse EFC staff members Adam Maurer and Mandy Westerdahl. Girls got up-close and personal with the red wigglers inhabiting Syracuse EFC’s worm bin as they learned about the importance of recycling organics. Once the bins were assembled, the girls proudly painted the Girls Inc. logo on the top, along with other creative designs. The completed bins will be given to classrooms and businesses interested in managing a vermicompost system this fall.
