School districts and community groups throughout US EPA Region 2 were the recipients of 17 awards from the Syracuse University Environmental Finance Center (SU-EFC) for projects carried out between 2013-2015. Awards were made in the amount of $5,000 to support the implementation of pollution prevention initiatives–specifically through green infrastructure and sustainable materials management projects–throughout K-12 schools. The purpose of the program is to connect students, educators, and community members with critical environmental topics and provide them with the skills and resources necessary to become environmental stewards. The awards supported projects in New York City, eastern New York, central New York, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
