Environmental Advising Committee Assistance Available to Municipalities from the EFC
During the past few years, EFC has met with several town boards and board-appointed environmental advising committees. Feedback and meetings with these groups have allowed EFC to provide relevant information on funding, project implementation, and other technical assistance, as well as conduct training on meeting facilitation, consensus-based agreement and collaborative governance techniques. New State Stormwater Performance Standards and Urban Stormwater Retrofits Expert Panel Final Recommendations Approved
Earlier this summer two of the Chesapeake Bay Program's Expert Panels came to consensus on a set of recommendations for load reductions associated with the BMPs constructed according to the New State Performance Standards and Urban Stormwater Retrofits and after months of deliberations the recommendations have been approved by the Water Quality Goal Implementation Team! Watershed Protection Improvement District Bill Passes Assembly
New York State Assemblymen Fred W. Thiele, Jr. and Dean Murray announced legislation (A.7119-A) they sponsored which would allow Town Boards to establish watershed protection improvement districts has passed the Assembly.
A.7119-A is an innovative means to protect and restore our waters. Through watershed protection improvement districts, Towns are able to raise funds to install and maintain stormwater treatment, drainage and infiltration projects, septic system upgrades, alternative septic systems, conservation landscaping, storm water collection devices, and natural shorelines and shoreline buffers. These practices are designed to capture, treat, and infiltrate runoff and decrease the amount of pollutants reaching our waterbodies. Learn More |
New EPA App Lets Users Check Health of Waterways Anywhere in the U.S.
How's My Waterway was designed to provide useful public information based on data that States have provided to EPA on a two-year cycle. More recent or more detailed water information may exist that is not yet available through EPA databases or other sources. National Smart Growth Conference Planning
Through this Request For Proposals (RFP), EPA is seeking proposals for organizing a series of national smart growth conferences over a period of five years. Each conference will be a multi-disciplinary event that focuses on diverse smart growth issues and attracts a large and varied audience. EPA will award one cooperative agreement to include substantial federal involvement. EPA expects to award $140,000 for Year 1 with the possibility of additional, incremental funding of up to $800,000 in total over a five-year project period. Learn More Deadline: November 26, 2012

Science To Achieve Results (STAR) Research Program
This Request for Applications (RFA) is soliciting proposals that take a systems view of nutrient management. A systems view of nutrient management considers every potential link in the breadth of possibilities that may influence water quality. These involve societal and technological considerations and may include, but are not limited to: local resources, prevailing land uses, watershed health, manure management, energy costs, municipal wastewater treatment, in-building water reuse, or nutrient resource recovery.
