Mar 6, 2014 – Puerto Rico Recycling Partnership Members Undertake Large Recycling Effort at the Puerto Rico Open

More than 40 volunteers from the Puerto Rico Recycling Partnership (PRRP) and Zero Waste Puerto Rico came together in a huge effort to monitor trash and recycling stations throughout the duration of the 2013 Puerto Rico Open, held at the Trump International Golf Course in Rio Grande this past March.

Volunteer presence at the stations encouraged visitors to think twice before discarding their waste, and provided a moment of opportunity for volunteers to educate the public on proper recycling and the importance of keeping resources from entering the waste stream.

Recycling coordinators from the Municipal Recycling Coordinators Coalition also contributed their time and energy to man stations at the event, with representatives in attendance from Caguas, Yabucoa, Ceiba, and Fajardo.

Overall, 8,620 pounds of recyclables were collected at the event:

Cardboard – 4,000 Lb
Paper – 380 Lb
Magazines – 1,440 Lb
Glass – 1,750 Lb
Plastic & Aluminum – 1,050 Lb
